Aesthetics, affect, and making meaning in science education: an introduction

This overview gives a background for this special issue of the International Journal Science Education on Aesthetics, affect, and making meaning in science education. Contributions to examine how what kind aesthetics is constituted when it meets other practices (e.g. arts, mathematics, student lives), outside classrooms, consequences these encounters have meaning-making learning science. It reviews various traditions concepts used studying affect education, their theoretical foundations different meanings assign concepts. The review spans from cognitivist, causal approaches socio-culturally pragmatically-oriented stances examines educational questions that frameworks pose resolve. makes case socio-cultural pragmatic adopted set papers, focused continuity aesthetic experience with opens up fresh powerful ways support teaching learning. offers backdrop against which novelty individual contributions can be understood.
